Inkjet Versus Laser Printers: Which Is Better For Small-Scale Family Businesses?
I repurposed my family’s old house into a bed and breakfast a year ago. I did this because I saw it was a good business opportunity considering our town is short on hotels and an increasing number of visitors are looking for places to stay in which are neither too expensive nor crowded.
At the same time, the house is quite big, with at least eight usable rooms which are somewhat underutilized since my parents and younger siblings are already living abroad for quite some time. I didn’t want to sell the property and live in a smaller house, and felt that repurposing it would be a more profitable move.
Since I am working from home, I used the room adjacent to my bedroom as an office. And among the first equipment I purchased for my office at home was a printer. I limited my search to Brother Printers because apart from being reliable and efficient. I vacillated between buying a laser and inkjet printer. Comparing these two kinds of printers showed a number of differences. Laser printers are efficient in that they are extremely fast and Brother Toner cartridges have a high page yield effectively lowering cost per page. However, they are expensive to buy, take up a lot of space.
At the same time, upkeep can be demanding considering you need to regularly vacuum off the dry pigment particles released by the Brother Toner cartridges during operation. Inkjets on the other hand are more affordable and compact. In comparison to their laser counterparts, inkjets have slower printing speeds and the cost of printing per page is higher for Brother Printer ink cartridges than toners.
Taking my needs into account, I felt that an inkjet printer would be a more practical choice. My printing needs are modest, and I don’t usually go beyond 500 sheets monthly. Also, the decision to get an inkjet was also partly because they tend to produce better looking photo prints and can handle a variety of media. I ended up purchasing a higher-end multipurpose inkjet printer since it does away with having to acquire standalone fax machine, copier, and scanning device. The super high yield Brother Printer ink cartridge and wireless capability were also some of the reasons why I bought the unit.
